Adult Kid will be working on campus during June and July and then joining us for August before going to Scotland for a semester abroad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">What: Travel Southeast Alaska by ferry, then Yukon Territory, Arctic Ocean &#038; Alaska<\/h3>\n<p>The trip will be made up of a few stages.<\/p>\n<p>The first stage is driving from Tucson to Bellingham WA to catch the ferry to Southeast Alaska. <\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m34!1m12!1m3!1d12516164.89303483!2d-127.7995833241915!3d40.01505174357471!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!4m19!3e0!4m5!1s0x86d665410b2ced2b%3A0x73c32d384d16c715!2sTucson%2C%20Arizona!3m2!1d32.2539787!2d-110.97417689999999!4m5!1s0x80dcd63374da97a5%3A0x28219db89d522e41!2sAnaheim%2C%20CA%2092805!3m2!1d33.8276052!2d-117.9073244!4m5!1s0x5485a23d50cd267d%3A0x7f3bc0be97790bdd!2sBellingham%20Cruise%20Terminal%2FFerry%20Terminal%2C%20Harris%20Avenue%2C%20Bellingham%2C%20WA!3m2!1d48.7214564!2d-122.51270729999999!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1684640622474!5m2!1sen!2sus\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Then we&#8217;ll spend a month visiting Sitka, Ketchikan, Prince of Wales Island, Juneau and Skagway via ferry.<\/p>\n<p>In Skagway we will start the &#8220;Arctic Dash&#8221;: driving to Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, CA on the shores of the Arctic Ocean. This part will be, as they say, &#8220;miles and miles of miles and miles&#8221; and it will be almost completely in wilderness, and most of it on gravel roads. The only city along the way will be Whitehorse, Yukon (Pop 25,000), and the only towns will be Dawson City, Yukon (Pop 1,375), Inuvik, Northwest Territories (Pop 3,243) and Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territory (Pop 898).<\/p>\n<p><iframe around Alaska for August and part of September, with stays in Cordova, Wasilla, Valdez, Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak Island, Palmer and Denali.<\/p>\n<p>The final stage will be driving back to the lower 48 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>What: Travel around North America for <s>fourteen<\/s> <i>eighteen<\/i> months in our RV<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The plan for the&#8221;Big Trip&#8221; is to live on the road for <s>fourteen<\/s> <i>eighteen<\/i> months in Billy Goat, our 2001 Jayco Eagle Class C Motorhome.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chopchopbillygoat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_5962.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-113\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chopchopbillygoat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_5962.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5962\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Where: From Alaska to the Florida Keys<\/h3>\n<p>In the summer of 2014 we are going to make a beeline for Alaska and spend all summer exploring it.\u00a0 When it gets cold up there we are going to drop down, probably along the Rockies (Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico) trying to stay ahead of truly wintry weather.\u00a0 Once we hit the southern border, probably at Big Bend National Park in Texas, we will work our way along the Gulf Coast, getting to Florida in December\/January.\u00a0 We already have campground reservations in the Florida Keys for February 2015.\u00a0 In the spring of 2015 we will slowly follow the nice weather north along the East Coast, eventually ending up in Canada by early summer.\u00a0 We haven&#8217;t planned where to go for the summer of 2015, but probably head west across Canada and\/or the northern states of the US, and then explore the Rockies and\/or the Pacific Northwest, before returning home <i>in December 2015<\/i><s>just in time for Big Kid to start sixth grade<\/s>.<\/p>\n<h3>Why: Hmmm&#8230;.<\/h3>\n<p>Why go on a trip like this? There is no one single reason, and digging into all the reasons would take a lot of time. Short version: Doing something like this has always been a goal of both Ma and Pa Billy Goat, and over the past few years various things have fallen into place that made it possible.<\/p>\n<p>Ma says &#8230;. why not?! \u00a0Also, \u00a0it is time to bust out of suburbia for a bit &#8230;.<\/p>\n<h3>When: June 1, 2014 to December 2015<\/h3>\n<p>We will be departing Tucson on June 1, 2014 (Ma and Pa&#8217;s 13th wedding \u00a0anniversary) and returning home December 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alaska 2023: About us and this trip Who: Ma and Pa Billy Goat, Tween Kid, and Adult Kid We&#8217;ll be starting off with just Ma, Pa &#038; Tween Kid (turning 12 in June).
